IPC and the Wire Harness Manufacturers Association have been working together over two years to build an industry consensus standard, now identified as IPC/WHMA-A-620 Requirements and Acceptance of Cable/Wire Harness Assemblies. It is modeled after the popular IPC-A-600 (board acceptance) and IPC-A-610 (assembly acceptance). 

While still a work in progress it is nearly completed, and I've placed the chapters on our FTP site for download.  The files are in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format, with most chapters having both a high and a low resolution file.  While the illustrations on the high-res files are much easier to view, they run 10 to 20 times as large as the low-res files and are not for slow modems.

Anyone can access these files by using either Netscape or Internet Explorer browsers.  (The AOL built-in browser won't work--gets hung up on internal AOL servers, but after you log on to AOL you can then launch separate Netscape or IE browers that are installed on your system.  They'll port directly through AOL and actually give better performance in most cases than using the AOL built-in browser.) To access the files, just enter the following string of numbers into the regular browser address line.  DON'T PUT ANY LETTERS ― no http or www ― just: 216.203.210.37.  

That'll open directly into the FTP site, you you'll want to navigate to the folder 620-WireDocs.  Section 14 covers lacing.

Anyone that downloads and reviews these and has any suggestions or can offer illustrations/photos in the identified areas should contact me off-net [log in to unmask]  The time frame is very tight on this; goal is to have the document to ballot by early summer and published by late summer so the committee is at the point where they need support on missing items or they'll just be pulled out and deferred to a revision. Not exactly a high-tech question, but...could anybody point me to a
document, web site, etc. that shows the proper method for tying lacing cord
knots? Our customer wants us to tie down socketed ICs with lacing cord. I
have been away from defense work too long to remember where this info came
from.
