The Electronics Manufacturing Productivity Facility (EMPF) in conjunction
with Marquette University, Rockwell International, Alpha Metals, and Eaton
Corporation has been investigating the use of AC impedance measurement
techniques to electrically characterize solder paste materials used in the
manufacture of surface mount assemblies. Studies using these techniques
have been shown to be of significant value in characterizing some of the
various failure modes of these materials. The EMPF would like to share this
information through a seminar being held at the EMPF on January 6-7 1997.
For information on the seminar content, cost and registration contact the
EMPF Learning Center Registrar at (317)655-3679 or e-mail at

>>Good afternoon all.

>>I had a discussion this morning with a customer regarding the relative merits
>>of DC-based SIR testing vs. the newer impedance spectroscopy, which is
>>AC-based. I know of it and the basic operating theory, but not much more.
>> Is there anyone in the TechNet crowd who has started to use impedance
>>spectroscopy as a research or production tool? Or more to the point, willing
>>to share information on this new tool? I think it is an exciting concept.
>>Thanks for any input.
