Recently we received PWB's with actual internal widths (1/2 oz.
cu)less than the recommended .004". They measure in the .0025" -
.003" range. The PWB's are fully populated (100% SMT) and the problem
was not uncovered until in-circuit test revealed some out of tolerance
conditions on some low resistance circuits. The lines are adequate
for both current carrying and temperature rise concerns. The real
question is one of reliability and trace/via hole integrity. Since
this will be an expensive decision in the event of scrapping the
assemblies, I trying to find any source of data or experience that
suggests that .002" 1/2 cu traces are reliable over a temperature
range of -55C to 125C. Thanks in advance for any information.
