Since we use electronic work instructions (each operator has a terminal at the
work station), digitizing photos of actual hardware was ideal. We purchased a
system from Kodak, DCS 420, which works great. High resolution (1.5 million
pixels) provides sharp images which can be zoomed in on the monitor. The
system is somewhat costly, though, about $10k, two years ago.
