Brian, there are probably only a handful of e-mail clients that group messages
by thread, probably most are only capable of grouping by subject. I would
guess that most folks have never experienced the issue about which you
describe.
My corporate spam filter filters out individual messages, so I get a digest and
then read and reply primarily from the web interface, and even that ignores
thread identification, instead going by subject text.
