Have you done a cross section of the nodules?   Are they hollow, indicating
bubbles?

Perhaps you might want to do a cross section of particularly large one, and
then continuously grind it down, taking pictures every mil or two, to get an
idea of what the entire cross section looks like, looking for the "seed".
