We do this routinely. The thermal shock of a preheated part going
through 500 deg. solder is probably less than touching the part with a
700 deg. iron.

Subject: [TN] Tantalum Caps

Technetters,

I have a product that has Tantalum Caps, having them waved would make
our
life easier, the board has some TH components we currently hand solder
and
that could be waved. I know that there might be some reason not to wave
Tantalums, but I am not sure. Can Tantalum Caps be wave soldered?, Has
anyone done this?

Any responses would be appreciated
