Hi Ted,
I believe you would be well served by testing the reliability of the PWB
for degradation of the copper and material due to the thermal excursions
associated with RoHS assembly and rework. This is typically done with a
thermal cycle evaluation of representative coupons design to enunciate
variations in reliability expressed as cycles to failure.
Sincerely,

Subject: [TN] testing RoHS-compliant boards
Hello TechNet:
I work for a medical OEM. We will soon be producing lead-free
RoHS-compliant PCBAs.
I need to identify appropriate standard test methods for performance and
reliability of the new PCBAs made with RoHS-compliant materials. Is
there a standard shock and vibration test we should perform? What other
tests should we do? Would IPC-9701A be appropriate?
I would appreciate your recommendations and comments.
Thanks in advance for your help.
