- Multiple leads in a single PTH were always prohibited because: a) the Tce
differential of the (usually) dissimilar materials degraded the reliability
of the connection, b) adding a second lead (even a jumper) during
rework/repair engendered a high probability of incorporating flux and/or
leaving voids internal to the PTH and, c) rework became a procedure that
usually destroyed the integrity of the PTH wall/knee.
- USN (Naval Air Warfare Center Indianapolis [now deceased due to defense
cuts]) had significant data regarding failure of such connections in Naval
aircraft. Such data is probably in a landfill somewhere in central Indiana
as little was saved (the data was indicted for telling DOD contractor "How
To" do the job correctly - such action has been deemed politically
incorrect).
