Roger,
We use them all the time. The trace widths you are describing are fine.
We have gone as small as 4 mils. If you use unbalanced traces, there is
a potential for tombstoning, but that has not happened to our assemblies
thus far.

Subject: [TN] 0402s and trace width
Hi Y'all,
Just started using 0402s en masse on a new product. Potential problem
started to bother me, wanted to bounce this off all those brilliant
people out there. Any one have some ideas on max trace/ copper width
connecting a pad for a 0402 package device? Currently using 7 mil
traces for signals, 10 or 12 mils for power connections, thinking about
6.25 or 6 (for signal) to help with routing density issues...
Thanks,
Roger
