Woohoo!
Father just got a new saw mill (Woodmizer LT-35) and with the coming warmer weather we'll be churning out some lumber over the next week! It'll be nice to have the extra help!

Thanks!
Eddie

Subject: [External] [TN] Element Quiz Answer

The Element Quiz winner gets the services of our outstanding/amazing gnomes Clumpy and Kloumpios for the week (they have had their vaccination shots and can follow any covid-19 protocols the winner decides).

The Question:

A metal alloy using this element was known in China over 2000 years ago. Another alloy using this element is 6X stronger than stainless steel and is 2X stronger at 800C than 25C. German miners called an ore containing this element "Old Nick's copper". A compact disc fabricated from this element will preserve 1.5 million pages of data for 1000 years. What element is being described?

The Answer:

The element is Nickel (Ni)! German copper miners called a reddish brown nickel containing ore "kupfernickel" which translates to "devil's copper" since copper could not be extracted from it. Nickel aluminide was developed by Oak Ridge National Labs and nearly abandoned until it was discovered that a small amount of boron made a superior metal alloy that becomes stronger as temperatures to up (i.e. think engine applications). A nickel disc called HD-Rosetta has been developed that can store 1.5 millon pages of data for 1000 years!

The winner of the Quiz is Eddie Hofer, Collins Aerospace and he will get the assistance of the boys for the week. Please let us know what tasks you have for the boys to keep them busy.
