Area is a problem, depending on where you live and where the towers are located.  I know there are dead (weak) spots on the highway I use coming in and going home from work.

  MSNBC just did a review of cell phone service late last week. I tried to find it this morning but didn't have time to look really good. You might try surfing around their site for it. Basically they said that Verizon was the best but also quite expensive and MCI was the worst followed by Sprint.
   
  I use Sprint with my Samsung PDA/cell phone and like it a lot. I think Sprints problem might have something to do with the area you live in.
