Hi Guenter,
I had to chuckle at the story of your truck heating up the SIPAD boards. I
suppose there sre somethings that just cannot be helped huh?

We also had a situation where the data sheet for the paste we use was sent
along with the boards so the customer would have the reflow profile on
hand. Unfortunately, they read and mis understood the information about
storing the paste (raw paste) in the refrigerator soooooo, they placed all
the boards into the fridge until they ran out of room and called me. I had
to keep from laughing as it could have happpened to anyone I suppose.

SIPAD boards need only be stored in an environmentaly controlled area,
nothning special.

Here also is some feedback to some of Tom B's comments. I am not familiar
with Tom's experiance as I dont think we applied the SIPAD to his boards.
Nerver the less, read on.

SIPADs is a great process, but the cost is usually a factor.

All good things come with a cost!! SIPAD cost is usually made up for with
better, faster, cleaner assemblies.

It usually cost about $4 per board, but could be lower depending on
company.
I tell people SIPAD runs $4.00 to $40.00, depending on how much you buy.

You may get inconsistent pad volume.
Not sure about this. Never been an issue for SIPAD Systems.

Sometimes flux coverage is not enough.
Never been an issue with our boards.

and soldering alternative plating will be difficult.
We have applied SIPAD over HASL, Gold, Silver, OSP, White tin.

Also using BB loaders is not recommended as tacky flux will cause PWBs to
stick together

I have to agree with him here, you cannot stack SIPAD boards into a loader
with the paper off. Most of our customers that use pick and place just
peel off the paper and place it onto the line. Usually we deal in smaller
quantities so this is not an issue.

and double sided can't be done with SIPADS.

Double sided SIPAD has been done for years. 2 pass reflow has been the
challenge but we now have a method for 2 pass reflow that is only weeks
away from release. Very simple twist on the existing process. More later.
