Three bibles: expensive but really the best and up-to-date for general
understanding:

A Comprehensive Guide to the Design and Manufacture of Printed Board
Assemblies Vols 1 & 2, W.M. Ross (ed.)
Soldering in Electronics 2nd Edition, R.J. Klein Wassink
Manufacturing Techniques for Surface Mounted Assemblies, R.J. Klein
Wassink & M.M.F. Verguld.

All three are available from Electrochemical Publications at
http://www.elchempub.com , along with many others.
