Guess you answered your own question there. In my last position we had TWO X-ray m/c's (nearly #200k each). As you've stated, we used them to set up a process, after that......guys in white coats from the labs were the only customers, they would sample two units from a batch (between 5 and 5000 units, dont ask me why). I decided anybody who leaves #400k lying around doing nothing might not be the best long term career choice :-)
I mean...two..shheeesh
I'm sure you'll have process set up good enough to save the GM's much needed dollars for important things, like salary raises.
