Eric,

I think the solution you are looking for is design related.  If you take a
DFM approach, use RN's which have a missing pin, so that they can only be 
inserted ONE WAY.  We use some RN's which Sprague makes for us which have a
missing pin in the pin 2 location.  We have NO problems.
