        I think your reply to Steve was painted with a
  very large brush taking broad strokes. I don't think
  he was implying that the COMPANY was knowingly trying
  to mislead him, but rather the action of a salesperson
  may not have been totally professional. He mentioned
  ONE incident and you act like he is slandering the
  whole industry..Talking about taking something out
  of context!! Your generalizations:

      "most suppliers willing to listen"

      "On most cases"

      "I have found the "rumors" mostly untrue. They
       almost always have been exaggerated."


  Maybe Steve had one of the NOT-MOST salespersons and
  trusted what was said and beleives he (his company)
  was being misled (of course he inherited the situation
  since he's been there only a short time). I'd be upset
  also. He's just looking out for his employer and I
  would have him on my team anytime!!

  Totally uncalled for, he never referred to you as a
  pompous ***. Keep it professional, not personal!!

    of my staff, I would have no choice but immediate

  Sounds like another example of keep your mouth shut
  and don't rock the boat. I would have quit a long
  time ago.

  but I hate it when someone takes something out of
  context and lectures to all.
