Steve,

A logo or company name must appear on the product (or packaging for very
small boards) along with a recognition code for the product to be a UL
recognized component. It is possible for a company to have more than one
trademark, but every recognized product must be identified in accordance
with the procedures summarized in the recognized component directory.

In other words, the trademark has to appear in the book. Every company can
choose its own mark, and the mark doesn't have to reflect the company name.

Some companies will use their trademark without the UL recognition code for
non-UL recognized products. If a product is not UL recognized, all bets are
off for consistency of the markings.

A bit more complicated than I prefer, but that's UL. I've found that if a
company doesn't keep this stuff straight, there's a lot of corrective action
that UL can require.

Subject: Re: [TN] UL LOGO identification

Here's another page that tries to identify logos, but doesn't show that
National Semiconductor is the logo that's been described...

http://www.elnec.com/ic_logos/ic_logos.htm#N

Who knows? Do these logos ALWAYS appear on product that is manufactured or
sold from a company?

Me thinks that sometimes the most recognizable logo isn't always put on
everything through-out the complete product line that a company may sell...I
don't really know why I think that....
