Yes, Wayne, those are all excellent design practices with pretty much any type of mechanical MEMs device!

It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at end.



I liked Richard Stadem's Norway work.  I am limited to having built products to survive 15,500gs of acceleration and products to survive 500Hz of vibration, but not together.

As for delicacy, the problem is that the jerk force is often times a lot higher than we realize.  Mostly, when handling accelerometers, I recommended a dual foam protection system, a layer of rigid or semi-rigid foam with another layer of soft foam to reduce the jerk force.

Most applications recommend an adhesive perimeter bond to improve survivability.

Recommendation at least 1 inch of soft foam in both component and assembly packaging.
