Not to cause you more trouble Genny, but has anybody suggested irradiated PVC? It survives soldering temps better than regular PVC. 'Course this is only if your app can use it.

Subject: Re: [TN] wire coatings

Thanks for the info so far. Upon closer examination of the part numbers we
have in house, I noticed that the Teflon coated wire was a 19 strand type,
while the PVC coated wire was a 7 strand type. Would these finer strands
also make the wire much more susceptible to breakage with a little wiggling
(the initial problem)? Do you think that if I brought in a 7 strand teflon
coated wire that it might solve some of the breakage problems?

Thanks.

Do you remember my question regarding the midplane assembly?
Turns out that there was a reel of mislabelled wire in house, and a whole
bunch of assembly has been done using a PVC coated wire, instead of the
teflon coated wire I spec'd. Apparently the wire in question is obsolete,
but they like using it better than the teflon, and want to continue to use
that.
I don't know much about wire coatings - what is the difference between these
two coating types, and when would you want to or not want to use them. I
need to decide whether we need to force them to change out the wiring
they've already done.
Sigh...
Thanks for your help in advance.
