  Dave..
CONTROL is never simple, but is absolutly
necessary or get ready to retire early. ;->

1)The directory should definitly be restrictive to
a few very meticulous men/women. Naming convention
of the files in the directory is important and
should have some for though to prevent the wrong
    file being back-loaded for usage.

2)There will be a lot of opinion here. Revision
letter, new family number, dash number, contract
requiement, etc. I always like minor changes to
be handled with a rev letter, while a major change
should dictate a new number. You wouldn't want a
person to pick up a bare board, part numbers VERY
similar) and stuff it with very expensive components,
add assembly time start to test and discover it was
    the old version!!!!!
3)Fab and design data can reside together, but then
that total package should then be duplicated
elsewhere. You only coping data and it's not much
more effort at that time to make the 2nd copy.
Better then trying to replicate something at a
    later date.
4)E-mail works well for small files, but for large
files we have used ftp sites. Lately, I have been
accessing our files on a web site. The supplier
would dump the zipped files on his site and we
would download them into our site and unzip them.
5)I think it is called "The Magic Pushbutton System"
from the Keep On Dreaming Company located in Never
    Never Land. ;->

My opinions..Good luck, but careful is also
    important!

                      Regards,
