1. IPC's online catalog only shows the IPC-2615 as an active publication,
but another search indicates that IPC-D-300 was partially superceded by
2615. A closer inspection shows some major differences between the
documents, and hence the reason for the partial obsolescence.

300G outlines the basic tolerances and allowances for pcb fabrication (as
found in other IPC documents as standards and guidelines), but gives very
little information on GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). This
document may still have some uses in a few cases, but most everything is
covered in newer documents.

2615 seems to put its emphasis on only GD&T at it relates to printed
circuit/wiring boards and assemblies. It more closely follows the ANSI/ASME
GD&T standard ASME Y14.5M-1994.

2. I prefer to use documents such as IPC-2221, 2222, 2223, and 2615. The
2221, 2222, and 2615 are used in the PWB Designer Certification study course
(not 300G...).

Subject: [TN] IPC Printed Board Dimension and Tolerances

Morning Everyone, I came across the latest IPC PUBLICATION CATALOG and in
page 20 under the DESIGN heading, it was stated that IPC-2615 (Printed Board
Dimensions and Tolerance) Supersedes IPC-D-300G (Printed Board Dimensions
and Tolerances) .

Upon digging in further (from another source), I found that for IPC-D-300G
is still ACTV under the status column.

My questions:
1. IPC-D-300G had been supersedes by IPC-2615, how come it is still
ACTV under the status column?

2. Are we to follow either IPC-300G (last revision G January 1984) or
IPC-2615 or both?

More over if I am not mistaken, there is no mentioning in IPC-2615 that it
had supersedes IPC-300G (except in the catalog) as they sometimes do in
other IPC specifications.

Any help or clarifications would be very much appreciated.

Thanks all in advance.

Regards
S L Ong
