Hi Jim,
We use an alphanumeric, sequential part numbering system. Three letters denoting basic component type then the sequential number.
For example:
RES1001
CAP2789
DIO1030
ICT2002
We enter the full information in the 'Description' field of our inventory system, which consequently appears on our Bill Of
Materials, feeder lists etc, in addition to the part numbers. Having a non-descriptive system is good in that it makes people refer
to the BOM for the part description, and reduces errors re: tolerance values etc.
Regards,
Justin Braime
