Dear Roger,
I think it is a bit optimistic to say "All members may also want to note
that the exemption for leaded solders in servers, storage and storage
array systems has been extended indefinitely. Good news for a Friday,
huh?"
The exemption has not been extended indefinitely. Article 5(c) of the
directive applies, this means that the exemption will be reviewed (and
likely removed), as all the other exemptions will be reviewed, in 4
years.

This info is from the official "unofficial" meeting notes from the 10
Dec 2004 TAC meeting.
The list of expanded exemptions now includes:
"Lead used in compliant pin connector systems"
"Lead as a coating material for the thermal conduction module c-ring"
"Lead and cadmium in optical and filter glass"
"Lead in solders consisting of more than two elements for the connection
between the pins and the package of microprocessors with a lead content
of more than 80% and less than 85% by weight"
"Lead in solders to complete a viable electrical connection between
semiconductor die and carrier within integrated circuit Flip Chip
packages"
Lead in glass, such as leaded crystal, is still being considered.

I believe glass containing lead, such as used in optics, is now exempt.
