Hi Dave,
I believe that there are still places in Eastern Europe and republics of the
former Soviet Union where leaded gasoline (er...petrol?... benzene?... ;-)
is still in use, so a good sustained wind shift could have some interesting
effects on measurements. In other developing countries it remains also a
problem, (appallingly in Mexico City in 1998 the lead in the air was measured at 2
micrograms per cubic meter!) but there appears now to be plans to phase it
out almost everywhere (except, I think for aviation fuel) Still, the very
thought of trying to enforce 0.0% is reduction to the level of absurdity.
Francis Bacon, one of Europe's greatest thinkers and contributors to
scientific thought observed that "that truth is not derived from authority" and he
must be rolling in his grave seeing how bureaucrats are now brutalizing the
truth with their authority.
Very best,
Joe
