I'm surprised no one is mentioning "CN".

I have seen boards with that on, standing for "connector" as that is what they are rather than "jacks" which only defines a particular type of connector.

That said if it's a connector I use "J" as the smaller the better for fitting in today's high density boards with little room for multiple letter component designations.

I make no differentiation between male/female on the PCB, on the schematic I use different symbols as per some std I have somewhere.
If it's not physically on the PCB itself then it can be called Fred, Wilma or Bam Bam for all I care.
