Hi,

Personally, I think that hole size is a bit large but that depends upon the
assembly/soldering process.

As a basic 'rule-of-thumb' I use the follow formula:

Optimum finished hole sizes for through-hole leads:
Auto-inserted components:
Axial parts - max lead diameter + 0.016"
Radial parts - max lead diameter + 0.019"
Dip parts - max effective lead size + 0.014"
For components to be hand placed:
All parts - max lead diam + 0.008"

Best regards,

Mario Irigoyen

Subject: [DC] Hole diameter specification

Hi,

I have a TH cap that has 0.064" diameter pins and 0.089" diameter holes. Are
the holes properly designed?

I have skimmed IPC-2221 and IPC-D-279, but cannot find any formula for
calculating the diameter of the hole from the pin diameter. Where can I find
such formula?

Thanks,

Ioan
