How about just locking it up & taking it with you?
Where your lap goes, so does your laptop.. :D

A long chain, a locked steel box, an unemployed bum paid to act as minder
(nah, he'd nick it himself).....

IMO Any software solution is likely to be disabled, I.E. by formatting &
reinstalling.

It would have to be hardware & built into the mobo as add-ons can be
removed.
