Hi Scott-

Check out IPC-CM-770. Or (better idea), try to get the manuals for the
insertion equipment to be used, if any.

Hole sizing is somewhat dependent on insertion method (hand vs. machine).
Keepout areas/courtyard is very dependent on insertion equipment to be
used. Watch out for clinch/cut on bottom side.
Lead span for axial parts... see above...
Component orientations very restricted by combination of equipment and
tape-and-reel orientation for radial (stand-up) parts.

Feel like you're working with a stone tablet and a chisel?

Best Regards,
-Chris

[DC] Through-hole component standards

I'm working on a large power board that uses all through-hole parts..lots
of
them. Is there anything for through-hole parts that would be similar to
IP-7351 ? I've searched the IPC standards and PCB Libraries site and
others, but haven't found much for through-components.

I'm using the data sheets, but for the most part they don't have anything
regarding the recommended PCB hole sizes or mechanical/electrical
clearances
(courtyard). Can anyone point me someplace where I might be able to find
some additional information ?
