Ask your board vender for his guide lines.
They have to increase the finished line width to allow for the undercut of etching the pattern. Example 5 mils trace finished is 5 mils plus X for the copper thickness after pattern plating, etching, and surface finishing. In general the finer the traces the thinner the final copper needs to be for good plating and etching. Rule are different for exterior and interior layers because of pattern plating and surface finishing.

Subject: [DC] copper oz vs. minimum trace widths

We're trying to establish some best practice design guide lines in regards to minimum trace widths used in conjunction with copper weight (i.e. oz).

Example: 2 oz copper + plating on external layers / minimum trace width should be ?? mils.

Not as concerned about 1 oz or ½ oz, but would like others opinions on all three, as I can not seem to find any information on this in any of the IPC spec's I have.

Thanks in advance,

Colleen
