The correct definition is:

J or "Jack" or "Female" is the least moveable connector of the mated pair.
P or "Plug" or "Male" is the most moveable connector of the two.

What do you mean by stationary versus movable?

Thanks,

Larry,
That is correct most people get this wrong.
I have had many heated discussions about this in past lives.
But basically the J or P designation has NOTHING to do with male or
female pins.
J is the stationary conn and P is the movable conn period.
