As so many have aptly pointed out already that AD means Ano Domini. Another misconception is that BC stands for before Christ. It actually is BCE and means "before common era" Since there was not two years 1, year 1 was both the end of the years counting down and the first of the years counting up. Therefore it was the CE or Common Era. More accurate references refer to BCE and CE or before or after the single common year 1. Now aren't you glad you started this thread? But there is really a problem with a missed year 0, as I can remember (to a paper, not to year 0). May be the chronicles addresses a squence of years as follows: -.., -2, -1, +1, +2, +.., et cetera, but no "0" Bernhard "uno anno prior millenium nova" - oder so ähnlich! ############################################################## TechNet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8c ############################################################## To subscribe/unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the body: To subscribe: SUBSCRIBE TECHNET <your full name> To unsubscribe: SIGNOFF TECHNET ############################################################## Please visit IPC web site (http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm) for additional information.
