Hi Manon
If the press itself is driven by coil of this size (we have we coil clamps
on our sealers);
than in close vicinity your concerns are well founded ;
the inductions will (obviously) occur .
I'd say you should be even able to measure them on some loops .
If you'll find an induction ; you know that (generally) something is
happening outside of your control .
Considering your population the risk is high enough to take precautions (as
ESD) .
White flash is known to target memory blocks ; and without going with
gaussmeter around your coil and rigging your board on ict, discounting the
(similar to ESD damage) delayed weakening factor ;
I'd switch to hydro or pneumatic piston (servo may be a luxury).

Subject: [TN] electromagnetic field on a mechanical press

Hi technetters,

We have a very dense and complex board with CPUs, BGAs, flash and eeproms on
it. We need to use a mechanical press with an electromagnetic field in its
head to insert a connector. Could we damage any components by doing so. We
don't know the force of this field.

Thanks for your help,
