Richard; Intel says that inside the MBB ( Moisture Barriers Bag ) the component can survive for one year from bag seal date ( Intel storage time plus customer storage time ) in conditions as critical as 40C and 90% RH. Besides this fact, the components came with a HIC ( Humidity Indicator Card ) that tells you if need rebake or not. For in Process storage Intels says you could store PLCCs and PQFP ( =< 100 leads ) outside MBBs for long period of time if RH is less than 10%. This matter is not so simple, the moisture absortion rate is material and size dependant. I recomend you go to Intel web site and download ( pdf format ) the chapter 8 of 1999 Intel Packaging Databook, you will find 28 pages about Moisture Sensitivity/Dessicant Packaging/Handling of PSMCs http://developer.intel.com/design/packtech/packbook.htm I hope this help Jorge Dourado de Santana Maintenance / Process Engr Microtec - Brazil > -----Original Message----- > From: <Richard Tilbrook> [SMTP:[log in to unmask]] > Sent: 8 de Outubro de 1999 04:37 > To: [log in to unmask] > Subject: [TN] level 6 moisture sensitive smt components > > Hi, > > I am enquiring into the acceptable conditions [ie. temp. and Relative > Humidity] for long term storage [ie. 8 to 10 months] of level 6 moisture > sensitive smt components. > > I am aware that moisture sensitive components of levels 2 through 5 > require > an RH of less than or equal to 20% RH for long term storage, but does this > apply to levels 5a and 6, or is a lower RH necessary?
