Stephen, First, let me say I agree with you in that the 5 deg tolerance is too tight. And though you can easily prove your point by siting standards, it will not solve your confrontational problem. You must remember you are in a company that has "done it this way since day one". If it has always been that way, then somebody there has proven the machine is capable of meeting the 5 deg spec. You might consider looking into past calibration records to see if the solder temp ever failed before, and how the situation was resolved. Without getting technical (since your inspector doesn't seem to operate on that level), try to find if the procedures call out where the probe is to be placed, and if the inspector followed the procedures. No matter what data you have to prove your point, the machine must have met these specs in the past, or the issue wouldn't exist. P.S. - Love the humor, keep it coming. ############################################################## TechNet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8c ############################################################## To subscribe/unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the body: To subscribe: SUBSCRIBE TECHNET <your full name> To unsubscribe: SIGNOFF TECHNET ############################################################## Please visit IPC web site (http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm) for additional information.
