Morning Ken - We encountered a situation a few years back where a board fabricator had implemented weld repairs on a number of boards they supplied us, without our knowledge. By the time we discovered the problem, we had a considerable amount of hardware built. Our actual discovery of the condition was prompted by test failures resulting from weld failures which occurred during the wave soldering process. Subsequent environmental testing indicated these particular welds were not reliable. Sorry, I no longer have the data on the size and type ribbon used in the parallel gap welding process. I would consider this as an option only after an exhaustive evaluation of the suppliers processes and considerable testing of his welded specimen. All of this tends to come at a fairly high price tag. I strongly recommend that you work with the board supplier to correct the problems that necessitate such a consideration, rather than resort to weld repairs.
