Hi Graham! A standard industry point of reference is that any process that joins two metals with a filler metal without melting and is below 800 F is termed soldering. A process that joins two metals with a filler metal without melting and is above 800 F is termed brazing. There are processes such as joining two aluminum sheets together with a filler metal (without melting the two Al sheets) at temperatures around 1100 F. Unless the flexprint is really thermally tough I imagine the customer meant a soldering process instead of a brazing process. Have fun. He's not sure what this means. Is this requirement unusual, and is it different from soldering the pins to the flexprint? I know that brazing is joining two metal surfaces with a third, different metal, which could include soldering, but I'm wondering if something else is meant by this. regards, Graham Collins Process Engineer, Litton Systems Canada, Atlantic Facility (902) 873-2000 ext 6215 ############################################################## TechNet Mail List provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8c ############################################################## To subscribe/unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the body: To subscribe: SUBSCRIBE TECHNET <your full name> To unsubscribe: SIGNOFF TECHNET ############################################################## Please visit IPC web site (http://www.ipc.org/html/forum.htm) for additional information.
