Yes, Pat, many years ago we bought a small equipment just for trying. We could put down dirty silver and nickel coins directly into the bath, and got perfect wetting! You could solder "anything". The US brakes every oxide and seem to help the solder to find clean areas on the specimen. For large scale manufacturing we did not find any need of US soldering.
