Hello TechNetters, Just a reminder that the deadline for abstracts for IPCWorks '99 is fast approaching. The following is the call for papers. ********************************************************************** IPCWorks '99 International Summit on Lead-Free Electronic Assemblies Get the Lead Out! Public and political pressure against lead use continues to grow, especially outside the U.S.. Japan, Denmark and the European Union (EU) have had bans proposed on lead and products containing lead. Although the U.S. isn't likely to consider any such bans, international OEMs are becoming more sensitive to the issue. Many are either researching alternatives for lead in their products or encouraging their suppliers to do so. A ban in Europe will have an affect on the global marketplace which will force many U.S. manufacturers to eliminate lead as effectively as a U.S. ban might. Is it time to develop a roadmap for lead elimination? IPC thinks so. It's time to identify issues and roadblocks, encouraging research and education to take the industry on the path of eliminating lead in electronics assembly. How do you want to spend your company's money: fighting legislators or building product? Let's put the issues on the table and determine a path forward! The International Summit on Lead-Free Electronic Assemblies at IPCWorks '99 will bring together all the players on this issue. The summit will have several tracks corresponding to the various facets of the issue. Presenters should expect more than 600 industry representatives from across the U.S. and the world to attend the International Summit on Lead-Free Electronic Assemblies at IPCWorks '99. Here is an opportunity for you to learn and contribute your expertise on various subjects. IPCWorks '99 will have time slots of 30 minutes and one hour for paper presentations.
