Achim - The concerns many of us have with some of the proposals we are hearing of from the EU can be summed up briefly: - PRODUCT SAFETY AND RELIABILITY - Many of the proposed solutions and alternate materials have not been totally proven to be equal to or better than the articles they would replace; - ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT - A number of the proposed solutions would in the long run have a far more severe impact on the environment; - COST - Many of the proposed materialsl have not yet been standardized by their suppliers and are inordinately expensive. Similarly, quite a number of the solutions require major implementation costs. Obviously we all pass the cost of doing business on to our customers. Most of us, like myself have been around for a while, and have seen many things foist on the industry by well meaning individuals who had little understanding of the actual engineering or chemical principles involved. It is far better for all concerned, that this type effort be implemented by responsible, well engineered change than by emotions and politics. I'm afraid I'm at a loss with regard to your comment about "child safe TV"? The active elements of a TV do not emit lead particles or similar such that the user would be exposed. Most responsible parents do not allow their children to teethe on the circuit boards, etc. My humble opinion - Kelly ################################################################ TechNet E-Mail Forum provided as a free service by IPC using LISTSERV 1.8c ################################################################ To subscribe/unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the body: To subscribe: SUBSCRIBE TechNet <your full name> To unsubscribe: SIGNOFF TechNet ################################################################ Please visit IPC's web site (http://www.ipc.org) "On-Line Services" section for additional information.
