My facility has found a rigorous training curriculum for SMT machine operators is very beneficial. The training materials are created by the Engineering staff and are quite extensive. Initially we had a consulting group perform training with their materials but were not satisfied with the results. The training includes both classroom and hands on modules and is taught by a dedicated trainer on our staff. After initial training the operators are paired with an experienced operator for the equivalent of an "apprenticeship". To become a "certified operator" and continue as a smt machine operator requires passing both written and practical tests. This program is a huge commitment of resources but has proven to be well worth the expense. This training is designed to prepare an operator to run machines, pull documentation and download programs from a unix network, and use the spc system. Hi, I've been assigned the task of 'formalizing' our SMT machine operator training. In the past we've relied on some basic verbal instruction supplemented with on-the-job training. My question is what methods do some of you use for this training? Do you create detailed work instructions? Do you use the equipment manuals supplemented by less detailed instructions? What other methods are being implemented? Do your operators also program the machines or just run them? Any feedback, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
