Lei, You probably caught the mass "typo" but corrections are shown in caps. If one is interested in the sum of results of these ions expressed in these units, then ppm F X (59/19) X 1000 = fluoride expressed as micrograms NaCl / sq cm ppm Br X (59/80) X 1000 = BROMide expressed as micrograms NaCl / sq cm ppm Cl X (59/36) X 1000 = CHLORide expressed as micrograms NaCl / sq cm ppm I X (59/127) X 1000 = IODide expressed as micrograms NaCl / sq cm ppm SO4 X (59/96) X 1000 = SULFATE expressed as micrograms NaCl / sq cm ppm etc X (59 / gram equivalent weight of etc) X1000 = etc expressed as micrograms NaCl / sq cm The SUM of the results = all anions expressed as micrograms NaCl / sq cm Paul Wilson R&D Manager / Plant Chemist Circuit Center, Inc. 4738 Gateway Circle Dayton, OH 45440 Phone (937) 435-2131 Fax (937) 435-7698 http://www.circuitcenter.com -----Original Message----- From: Tumibay, Aleli [SMTP:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Monday, November 30, 1998 10:43 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Q on Ion Chromatography For the IC experts out there, I have questions for you: Our specs specify that "Package contamination" values be expressed in ug NaCl equivalent / sq cm. However, the Ion Chromatography results that we obtained are specific, itemized (i.e. Fl, Br, I, Cl, SO4, etc) and in ppm. 1. What "anions" in the IC results are considered "NaCl equivalent"? (Do I add all of the anions or is it just the Cl- ions?) 2. If the total surface area of the unit and the IC solvent volume were known, I can readily convert the IC results (ppm or mg/L) to ug/cm sq. Am I doing it right? Or are these units not related to each other and therefore not convertible? Would appreciate all your responses.
