The flowchart ideas of CAD companies how to synchronize schematics and layout have fundamental flaws: 1. It assumes a schematic is finished before a layout starts 2. It does not allow concurrent engineering changes in layout and schematic at the same time 3. It assumes that layout designers can (is allowed to) change a schematic 4. It assumes that a layout designer has access to schematic software and files. We have found that what people want is a good way of comparing schematic and layout during any stage of the design process. We at www.rsi-inc.com have designed a program called DELTANET, which can compare BOM and NETLIST data at any stage of the design and create a diff list, which the user than can evaluate the result and make the necessary modifications.
