Yes we do to some degree, in that I mean it is very hard to get the engineers to adhere to this. We basically took a look at all of our products in production at this time and put any item used on more than 1 product on an A list of prefered parts, the ones that were used only in one place were on the B list. And the ones not actually used in production at this moment the C or not to be used list. We tried to get the engineers to really look at the A list when selecting parts IT WAS TOUGH. We were not 100% successful in this effort but have made some strides. Also with respect to case sizes we have standardized on the 0805 case for caps & resistors where ever possible. Robert M. Ignoring the individual specifications for body dimentioning, just trying to settle on some common body styles to reduce SKU's and more uniform manufacturing process handling. I was wondering if anyone out there has set a component preference standard for their in-house use that they would be willing to share with us. In other words, say for chips, is there an internal requirement or standard that says the company is going to use a 1206 style where ever possible, etc. Like standardizing on a 1/4W resistor as the common axial resistor body style for use in-house. Something that Engineering and Manufacturing agree to. Or have the component manufacturers started pricing certain body styles better than others? This also would have a tendency to 'target' certain body styles as 'common'. Just wondering what the rest of the world has done in this area. Again, Thanks in advance.
