Ron, One or two negative comments I want to add; in my previous work life, we used metal smt tips to rework smt components a lot. Water-soluble flux eats up those expensive tips very fast. They were not recoganizable after a few months. Now we are using no-clean flux and that problem is no long an issue. As other techy responses, the proper usage and maintenance of tips are very important. Tin tips before and after reworking each component, and never force tips to remove components. regards Matthew Park NII-Norsat International Inc. >>> Ron Hollandsworth <[log in to unmask]> August 14, 1998 5:14 am >>> We are using a no-clean handsoldering flux. I have seen and heard many stories of how good MetCal irons are for a no-clean operation. Maybe I could get some listners here to take note of the importance of iron temperature and no-clean if you TechNet buddies out in the World would drop a line or two onto the TechNet about the pros and cons of the MetCal soldering irons. Perhaps I may be able to convince others in this organization that this is the way to go for tip temperature control. I would appreciate the help.
