Hello Greg Yes, we have found this little surprise from Philips also, I try to design them out of out boards. When we do have to use them I have a special pattern for these devices. As far as the technet responses go the best I received was the melf acronym "Most End-up Lying on the Floor". The JEDEC site was the only place I found that defined the three melf devices, and this is for diodes I do not know if those numbers apply to resistors etc. also. And from the top of my head the DO-213AA and SOD-80 are similar, and DO-213BB and SOD-87 are similar.
