Please forgive me if this is a dead horse long ago disposed of:

We in the aerospace industry are under increasing pressure to justify
commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware whenever possible. We are
also trying to come to grips with suitable replacements for cancelled,
or about to be cancelled military specifications (e,g., MIL-STD-2000A,
MIL-S-13949, QQ-S-571, etc.). Both of these issues require thorough
materials and processes (M&P) involvement. Undoubtedly there are
those shock troops of the M&P world who have cleared a path for us
followers.

I would appreciate hearing off-line from all of you M&P engineers out
there on these two issues.
