Charles, I did some trials in the mid 80's on (wave soldered) 1812 capacitors. Severe solder fillet cracking was observed after 1000 cycles -55 to +125 (compared with no observable damage to 1206 devices after 2000+ cycles). What was more surprising was that failures in a PCB bending test (intended to act as greatly accelerated test) did not show a dramatic difference between the two component sizes! Little difference was observed in damp heat (85/85) test performance.
