Make sure the spray pressure is low enough to eliminate the risk of abrading the coating (difficult to imagine with 2577). Do not put any of these panels through an Omega meter or equivalent. Unreacted monomer and fragments may trash the resin beds. I know acrylic trashes the bed and comes off in the cleaner. Saponifiers may delaminate and/or swell some coatings. Softer coatings can abrade and redeposit on product in the cleaner, leaving cosmetic problems or clogging filters. Just some experience I had at a prior location. ------------- Original Text From: C=US/A=INTERNET/DDA=ID/TechNet(a)IPC.ORG, on 3/10/98 8:47 AM: To the "Net": I have boards which require some rework. The boards have been conformally coated with Dow-Corning 1-2577. Coating has been thoroughly removed from the affected area. The part has been removed. I have a selective soldering pallet that will expose only the leads for this one part when I re-run the board over the wave solder machine using water soluble flux. None of the other soldered leads are reflowed during this operation. This part of the process is working well. The question that I have is, I wonder if there is any harm done to the conformal coating when running it through my in-line water cleaning system. Inspection under blacklight reveals that the coating is intact. I cannot see any visible damage. Does anyone have any experience with water cleaning circuit boards with conformal coating on a portion of the board ?
