Not only that, I am finding that something, maybe the firewall, is screening out all attachments except Word ones, and those are garbled. So, if you are posting something by attachment, some of us can't read it (and therefore cannot provide feedback), plus it does drag things down quite a bit. Those not interested can delete it and those too shy to ask will get it also. Cheers! I would send this to our shops/potential shops for them to fill out to see how they stacked up against what we were doing. It also gave me good back up data when someone asked me whether or not they could do a certain thing when designing their boards. I will be updating this form soon (it may go to three pages) and will be happy to send you a copy of it. With that information at hand, you will then know just what each shop can and can't do as a part of their normal day-to-day operation. I found that most shops, when asked: "Can you do xxxxx?" will say YES, but they don't always tell you whether or not they would have to push the envelope to reach that goal. I always want to know what they are most comfortable with producing to get the maximum yield for whatever the particular need is at hand. Then there are those very detailed survey forms that are 20-30 or more pages long............ That's another issue. We're being asked to use 12mil traces as a minimum because anything smaller is an increase in price. I assumed 8mil was the "standard", unless otherwise called for due to current load, board size, etc. What are you, in the real world, using for your "plain Jane" signal traces? And also, he keeps telling me we use a foreign board fabricator for the boards that use soft gold. Something about it uses arsenic in the process and domestic vendors don't want the hassle or expense. I know that Hadco does soft gold and I think it's done in New York. Does anyone have any info on other companies located in the US who can do soft gold? JoAnn L. Amerson Design Librarian Red Lion Controls, Inc.
